The Issues

“When Every child gets a Good education, the whole economy gets stronger.”

- BArack Obama

As a Member of the Contra Costa County Board of Education, my job is to see to lay the foundation for every student to feel seen, heard, and valued, I will to speak up for students who have historically been silenced. I will fight to sustain and enhance educational programs like athletics, the arts, and music. Above all, I will see to it that students can go to school in environments free of guns, violence, hate, and intolerance. As a member of the Contra Costa County Board of Education, we will create a lesson plan for the future together. Together, we’ll provide every child with a good education so that Contra Costa, California, The United States, and the world will have a strong and prosperous economy.

What is your vision for education in our County? What’s important to you? Click the link below and tell me what’s on your mind so I can add to this list.

  • Our students deserve clean water and pipes that are lead free, state of the art and sustainable classrooms and buildings, and the most up to date learning technologies.

  • Having a place to call home is an inherent right as is access to nutritious food. We need to do better

There are nearly 3,000 children and students experiencing homelessness in Contra Costa County. We need to work with our city governments and Sacramento to provide necessary services to students without drawing unneeded attention.

  • If we don't solve our climate crisis, there is a chance we might not have schools to send our children to.

We can work with AC Transit and our city governments completely electrify our modalities of student transport.

  • We will see to it that our students are well versed in identifying misinformation and teach them to search for the truth. Informed students make more informed decisions.

We needs to do a better job of informing young through quality journalism and healthy relationships with the media including social media.

  • Contra Costa County is home to 10 Continuation Schools and 4 Juvenile Court Schools.

We must do all we can to help our at-risk students in continuation schools and prevent them from becoming a part of the school to prison pipeline.

I will see to it that our students have options and reduce recidivism. Just because a student is incarcerated does not mean they don't deserve the chance to get an education.

  • Multiple studies have shown that young people who participate in sports and athletics have a significantly greater are more likely to attend college/university than those who don’t. Studies have also shown that a majority of higher level executives played sports during their high school and college years.

As a county, we need to do a better job of highlighting our young athletes and providing them with a “level playing field” in more ways than one.

We need to better modernize our soccer pitches, football and baseball fields, tennis and basketball courts, and gyms.

The arts play a major role in the wholistic educational experience. When students explore performing arts, fine arts, and others, they have the chance to create and learn new skills.

  • Making mental wellness a priority is something we all need to do. Regardless of how someone may appear, you never know what they are going through.

We must work with schools to ensure the Mental Health and Well-Being of our students.

  • As a member of the Los Angeles Mayor’s Crisis Response Team, I witnessed the power of neighbor helping neighbor. Working with the city’ police and fire departments along with area hospitals we helped the families impacted by crime or tragedy make it through what would arguably be the worst day of their lives. Many other cities have since created their own CRT’s and we can do the same in Richmond.

Working with our area First Responders, we can help our neighbors work through tragedy and work to PREVENT tragedy before it happens.
